With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy rainfall across Odisha due to Cyclone ‘Montha’, TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL) — a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of Odisha — has placed its entire workforce on high alert and issued a public safety advisory to prevent electricity-related incidents during the expected wet spell.

The company has activated round-the-clock monitoring and is maintaining close coordination with local authorities to minimize the cyclone’s potential impact on its power distribution network. Preventive maintenance activities and extensive tree pruning have been carried out near major substations and along distribution lines to enhance network reliability ahead of the heavy rains.

Emergency response teams have been strategically deployed across TPCODL’s operational areas, with particular focus on the vulnerable divisions of Kendrapada, Marshaghai, Paradip, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Nimapada, Nayagarh, and Balugaon. The company has assured uninterrupted power supply to essential services such as hospitals, water supply systems, and disaster management centres. To ensure a quick response, TPCODL has stocked essential restoration materials including cables, conductors, transformers, poles, and other critical equipment. Specialized teams equipped with heavy machinery, mechanized tree-cutting tools, vehicles, and safety gear are on standby across all divisions.

Over 350 emergency breakdown vehicles and nearly 10,000 personnel from TPCODL and its business associates have been mobilized to respond promptly to any disruptions. The company has also identified flood-prone and waterlogged zones, implementing preventive measures to safeguard electrical infrastructure and ensure speedy restoration where required.

In its public advisory, TPCODL has urged citizens to stay cautious and follow basic electrical safety practices during the rains. People are advised to avoid touching electrical poles, wires, or transformers; refrain from operating electrical switches with wet hands; turn off power supply in case of flooding; and keep children away from open drains, puddles, and exposed cables. Consumers are requested to report any power-related emergency immediately by calling the company’s 24×7 toll-free helplines 1912 or 1800-345-7122.

“Our teams are fully prepared to respond swiftly to any situation arising from the heavy rains,” said Arvind Singh, CEO, TPCODL. “Ensuring the safety of our consumers and maintaining the reliability of our power supply network remain our top priorities. We appeal to everyone to stay alert and adhere to the safety guidelines during this period,” he added.
