AM/NS India marks National Pollution Prevention Day with sustainability pledge across Odisha units

ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) marked National Pollution Prevention Day across its Paradeep and Dabuna facilities with a series of awareness programmes and plantation drives, reiterating its unwavering commitment to environmental protection and sustainable industrial practices.

At the Paradeep Pellet Plant, the observance drew participation from over 100 employees and partners and was graced by Puskar Chandra Behera, Regional Officer, State Pollution Control Board (SPCB), Paradeep, as Chief Guest. He underscored the shared responsibility of pollution prevention, noting that safeguarding the planet today is essential for securing the well-being of future generations. Dibyalochan Mohapatra, Environment Engineer, SPCB Paradeep, also shared his reflections on the significance of the day and the need for continued vigilance in pollution control.

Addressing the gathering, C.H. Hariprasad, Plant Head, Paradeep Pellet Plant, SPL, AM/NS Ports, highlighted the company’s proactive adoption of advanced technologies aimed at curbing emissions and reducing its overall environmental footprint. Rajarshi Sinha, Head – Captive Power Plant, Paradeep, outlined several key initiatives at the power plant focused on emission reduction and operational efficiency. Suvendu Kumar Dash, Head – Environment, Odisha, invoked the lessons from the Bhopal Gas Tragedy, stressing the urgency of prioritizing pollution prevention as an essential obligation to protect human civilization.

The programme concluded with a plantation drive inside the plant premises, where dignitaries and employees jointly planted saplings, symbolizing their collective resolve to foster a greener and healthier environment.

At the Dabuna Beneficiation Plant, the day was marked by an engaging awareness session centred on sustainability and workplace excellence. Employees and associates were felicitated for their remarkable contributions toward reducing waste, conserving water and electricity, improving air and water pollution control measures, and maintaining exemplary housekeeping across operational areas. The session emphasized the need for continuous adoption of sustainable practices to ensure long-term environmental responsibility, reinforced by active employee participation.

National Pollution Prevention Day is observed in memory of the victims of the 1984 Bhopal Gas Tragedy and serves as a reminder of the vital need for pollution control and environmental stewardship. Through its comprehensive initiatives across Odisha locations, AM/NS India reaffirmed its dedication to reducing pollution, championing sustainability, and contributing to the creation of a safer, greener society.
