Dalmia Bharat Limited (DBL), one of India’s leading cement manufacturers, celebrated the 4th edition of its prestigious DSP Expert Rath Shilpkar Samman as part of the ongoing Rath Yatra 2025 festivities, held from June 27 to July 5. The annual celebration, a key component of the company’s flagship initiative Saluting the Expert, honours the unparalleled craftsmanship of traditional Rath artisans, or shilpkars, who play a vital role in upholding Odisha’s rich cultural legacy.
This year, four master artisans — Raghunath Subudhi, Ramesh Mohapatra, Babana Maharana, and Kartik Bhoi — were felicitated for their extraordinary contribution to Rath construction and woodcraft. These shilpkars were selected by an esteemed jury of veteran craftsmen and cultural stalwarts, including Vijay Mahapatra, Nurusingha Mahapatra, and Narayana Maharana, all of whom are respected Head Shilpkars of the sacred tradition. Their meticulous selection process ensures that only the most deserving artists—true custodians of the craft—receive this distinguished honour.
A unique highlight of this year’s celebration was the distribution of 1,000 miniature Rath replicas among children of dealers and channel partners. This thoughtful gesture aims to instill cultural pride and awareness among the younger generation, nurturing a connection to Odisha’s glorious heritage.
Furthering its cultural storytelling, Dalmia Bharat is also producing a short film showcasing the life journeys of the honoured artisans — capturing their skill, dedication, perseverance, and spiritual devotion to Lord Jagannath’s service. The film will offer a rare glimpse into the soul of Rath craftsmanship, bringing these inspiring narratives to a broader audience.
Significantly, Dalmia Cement remains the only brand to honour artisans in front of the sacred Raths themselves, adding an unmatched layer of reverence and pride to the event. This symbolic gesture reflects the company’s deep respect for the traditions it celebrates and its long-standing relationship with the state of Odisha.
