A significant chapter in India’s maritime heritage began today as the foundation stone was laid for the iconic Kalinga Maritime Museum at Paradip Port. This visionary project is set to become a landmark institution celebrating Odisha’s rich seafaring legacy and showcasing cutting-edge architectural design.

The groundbreaking ceremony was led by P. L. Haranadh, Chairman of the Paradip Port Authority (PPA), in the presence of senior officials from PPA and the Indian Port Rail & Ropeway Corporation Limited (IPRCL), which is managing the project.

Envisioned as a fusion of tradition and innovation, the museum will be constructed in the form of a giant fish-shaped structure — a symbol of Odisha’s ancient maritime culture. Facing the sea, the building is engineered to harness coastal wind flow, channeling it through its body for natural ventilation and aerodynamic stability.

A standout feature of the project is its climate-resilient design. Capable of withstanding extreme temperatures ranging from 80°C to 450°C, the museum will also be fortified to endure cyclonic wind speeds up to 280 km/hr, ensuring structural integrity and the safety of its exhibits in the face of Odisha’s harsh coastal conditions.

This project marks a bold step forward in smart port development, aligning with Paradip Port Authority’s long-term vision of blending infrastructure growth with cultural preservation. Once completed, the Kalinga Maritime Museum will not only serve as a major cultural and educational hub but also stand as a symbol of resilience, sustainability, and innovation.

With IPRCL’s technical expertise and the Paradip Port Authority’s commitment, the museum promises to become a beacon of pride for Odisha and a magnet for maritime scholars, tourists, and heritage enthusiasts alike.
