NTPC Bongaigaon empowers rural football talent for national trials

NTPC Bongaigaon has reaffirmed its commitment to grassroots sports development by extending financial and logistical support to four budding footballers from rural Assam. As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, the company provided sports kits, transportation, and allowances to help these young athletes participate in the final selection trials at Sudeva Delhi FC’s training facility in Delhi.

The four players —Sandeep Nazary, Kapil Brahma, Rangina Basumatary, and Nihan Basumatary — were initially selected in the Under-15 and Under-17 categories during the Assam Trials held at Adabari Playground, Kokrajhar, in January 2025. The trials, conducted by Sudeva Delhi FC, presented a crucial opportunity for these young talents to showcase their skills at a national level.

Speaking at the event, Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon, emphasized the organization’s dedication to nurturing sports talent from rural areas. He highlighted how such initiatives align with NTPC’s vision of fostering youth empowerment through sports. He was joined by Dr. Heman Hazarika, Scientist, Regional Office, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India, who lauded NTPC’s role in uplifting local talent and underscored the significance of balancing sports and academics for overall development.

NTPC Bongaigaon acted promptly on a request from the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) to facilitate the participation of these players in the final trials. Expressing their gratitude, Danen Narzary, President, Salakati Anchalik Committee, ABSU, Ajay Ram Baro, General Secretary, NTPC Bongaigaon Employees Union, Pinchu Daimary, President, NBEU, and representatives of Salakati Shramik Union commended NTPC’s proactive support in shaping the future of these young footballers.

Onkar Nath also addressed the gathering, stressing the long-term impact of such initiatives in transforming the sports landscape of the region.

The event was attended by senior NTPC officials, including Sheeja A Sasidharan, AGM (EMG), Paresh Mathur, AGM (TS), Roshan Dungdung, DGM (HR), and Madhurjya S Lahkar, DGM (CC). Their presence reaffirmed NTPC’s collective commitment to fostering sports as a tool for holistic youth development.
