NTPC Bongaigaon launches Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) 2025 with zeal and purpose

NTPC Bongaigaon launched the Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) 2025 on Tuesday with great enthusiasm and a deep sense of purpose. The inaugural ceremony was graced by Masanda Partin, District Commissioner, Kokrajhar; Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon; and Kasturi Maitra, President of the Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club.

Now in its fourth year, the GEM initiative focuses on the holistic development of rural girls aged 10-12 years, nurturing their self-confidence, leadership abilities, and social awareness. This year, 40 girls from 12 nearby schools have been selected to participate.

The event began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and the NTPC theme song, symbolizing the organization’s continued commitment to empowerment and inclusive growth. It was attended by senior dignitaries including Debabrata Kar, CGM (O&M); Soumya Kar, Vice President of Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club; L.N. Meitei, Commandant, CISF; Amit Kr. Asthana, Head of HR; as well as representatives from unions, welfare bodies, and parents.

Highlights of the event included a short film showcasing GEM 2025 activities, cultural performances by students of Bal Bhawan and Notre Dame Academy, and powerful testimonials from GEM alumni. A stage performance on the theme ‘Educating the Girl Child’ was also presented, emphasizing creativity and awareness.

In her keynote address, DC Masanda Partin emphasized the crucial role of empowering girls in strengthening families and society. Arnab Maitra reaffirmed NTPC’s commitment to education, equality, and community development, calling GEM a flagship initiative to shape future women leaders.

Scheduled from July 1 to July 30, GEM 2025 promises a transformative journey through structured learning, creative engagement, and a focus on physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

To date, over 12,700 girls have been empowered through GEM across NTPC locations, reflecting the company’s strong commitment to gender equality and sustainable social development.
