In a meaningful observance of International Plastic Bag Free Day, the Environment Management Group (EMG) of NTPC Bongaigaon conducted a special awareness session for the participants of the Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) 2025, fostering awareness about the environmental hazards of plastic usage and encouraging sustainable living practices.
The interactive session focused on sensitising young minds to the long-term impact of plastic pollution and the urgent need to adopt eco-friendly alternatives. Reinforcing the message of sustainability, eco-friendly jute bags were distributed to all GEM participants by Shri Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon, in the esteemed presence of Smt. Kasturi Maitra, President of the Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club, along with club office bearers.
Adding further value to the initiative, trainers from M/s Tusti Foundation — an organisation engaged in skill development among women from Project Affected Villages — showcased a variety of handcrafted products made from Areca leaf and jute. Their demonstration not only highlighted viable alternatives to plastic but also underscored the role of women-led micro-enterprises in promoting environmental and economic sustainability.
The session was an inspiring blend of learning and interaction, encouraging the girls to make informed, responsible choices that contribute to a greener and cleaner future.
By integrating environmental consciousness with empowerment initiatives like GEM, NTPC Bongaigaon reaffirms its commitment to nurturing environmentally aware and socially responsible future leaders.
