Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, has launched a transformative plantation initiative, Mo Gachha Mo Parivar (My Tree, My Family), across Odisha’s Kalahandi and Rayagada districts. This mega drive aims to plant over 1,00,000 fruit-bearing saplingsv—vsuch as mango, guava, jackfruit, and moringav—vwith the goal of positively impacting more than 30,000 rural families by enhancing ecological balance and strengthening livelihoods.
The campaign began with a vibrant community-led plantation event at Bhalubhadrapur village and within Vedanta’s plant premises, drawing participation from over 600 people, including employees, senior leadership, schoolchildren, local government officials, and villagers. The symbolic theme, “Mo Gachha, Mo Parivar,” underscores a collective pledge to care for every tree as a member of one’s own family.
Driven by more than 600 employee volunteers and supported by Vedanta’s senior management, this initiative represents one of the region’s largest community-based environmental movements. It is expected to offset nearly 1.5 lakh tonnes of carbon emissions over the lifetime of the trees, while promoting biodiversity, improving soil health, and helping prevent erosion.
Importantly, the plantation of fruit-bearing trees will also generate long-term economic benefits by enabling income through harvests and related activities, thereby building climate resilience and supporting sustainable development in ecologically sensitive zones.
Commenting on the campaign, Pranab Kumar Bhattacharyya, CEO – Vedanta Alumina Business, said, “At Vedanta Lanjigarh, sustainability is not just a responsibility — it’s a way of life. Through ‘Mo Gachha Mo Parivar’, we are sowing seeds of hope, unity, and prosperity. We are proud to walk hand-in-hand with the community toward a greener and more resilient tomorrow.”
The initiative is a key step in Vedanta’s long-term vision to contribute to India’s climate action goals and scale environmental stewardship across regional and national levels.
