Centre launches VISION portal to empower underprivileged youth with skills and innovation

New Delhi, November 21, 2024 (TBB Bureau): The Central Government on Thursday launched the ‘Viksit Bharat Initiative for Student Innovation and Outreach Network’ (VISION) portal, a transformative platform designed to nurture education, skill development, and innovation among underprivileged children across India.

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, launched the portal in the national capital, highlighting its potential to democratize access to entrepreneurial and innovative opportunities.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Singh said, “An initiative like VISION provides an opportunity for even the most underprivileged to get a feel of what is happening in the mainland. It symbolizes a broader effort to make the startup ecosystem accessible to all, bridging the gap between urban and rural India.”

The VISION portal aims to serve as a gateway for children in remote and underserved regions to access mentorship, training, and resources, fostering innovation and self-reliance. By connecting students with industry experts and educational resources, the initiative seeks to create a level playing field for aspiring innovators.

Dr. Singh commended the entrepreneurial foresight behind VISION and lauded its alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. He emphasized how the policy’s flexibility allows students to pursue diverse subjects and unconventional career paths, breaking free from traditional academic constraints.

Citing examples of success stories from remote areas, the minister underscored the transformative power of technology in enabling students to excel despite limited resources. He expressed optimism about India’s future as a global innovation hub, stating that initiatives like VISION are pivotal to achieving the country’s Vision India 2047 aspirations.

“This policy ensures that students are no longer prisoners of the subjects their parents chose for them. By enabling flexibility and fostering innovation, we are unlocking the potential of India’s youth to contribute to the nation’s growth,” Dr. Singh remarked.

The launch of the VISION portal marks a significant step in empowering underprivileged youth, equipping them with the skills and opportunities necessary to thrive in a rapidly evolving global landscape. The initiative is set to play a crucial role in building a robust and inclusive innovation ecosystem, ensuring that no child is left behind in India’s journey toward progress.
