In a significant move to empower women financially, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi disbursed over ₹5,000 crore to 1.18 crore women beneficiaries under the state’s flagship Subhadra Yojana. The event, held in Berhampur city’s Ambapua locality, coincided with International Women’s Day.

During the occasion, the Chief Minister credited ₹5,000 directly to the bank accounts of each beneficiary. This marks the second instalment under the scheme, following an earlier disbursal of the same amount across five phases over the past seven months.

Subhadra Yojana was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his birthday in Odisha on September 17, 2024. The initiative targets women aged 21 to 60, providing financial assistance of ₹50,000 over five years (2024-25 to 2028-29) to enhance their economic independence and self-reliance.

On Thursday, the state government also released ₹117 crore to benefit 2.30 lakh new beneficiaries under the fifth phase of the first instalment.

To sustain the initiative, the Odisha government has earmarked ₹55,825 crore for the scheme over five years. For the upcoming fiscal year 2025-26, ₹10,145 crore has been allocated to ensure smooth implementation.

The next phase of the scheme is set to coincide with the Raksha Bandhan festival, when the third instalment will be credited directly to the accounts of eligible women beneficiaries.
