Odisha has witnessed its highest-ever industrial growth in a single year, surpassing the combined industrial progress of the previous five years, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced on Sunday. He credited the achievement to focused governance, committed implementation, and robust collaboration with the industry.

Speaking at a special interaction with leading industrialists, MSME entrepreneurs, women business leaders, and startup innovators, CM Majhi highlighted the state’s transformation under his government, which completes its first year this month.

“One year ago, the people of Odisha placed their faith in us to build a future that is inclusive, aspirational, and transformative. Today, we reflect on this journey with pride and renewed commitment,” the Chief Minister said.

Thanking the business community for partnering in Odisha’s growth story, CM Majhi emphasized the government’s focus on employment-led industrialization. He urged industry leaders to “grow with Odisha” and contribute to transforming the state into an industrial powerhouse.

During the past year, Odisha approved 206 large-scale industrial projects — nearly double the average of the previous five years. These projects represent a cumulative investment of over ₹4.5 lakh crore and have the potential to create 2.9 lakh jobs.

Recounting the success of the Utkarsh Odisha Conclave — a marquee event attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi — CM Majhi said that over 150 MoUs were signed, unlocking investment intents worth ₹16.7 lakh crore and an employment potential of more than 12.9 lakh jobs.

“Since the conclave, 56 projects have already moved to the ground-breaking or inauguration stage, involving an investment of over ₹1.78 lakh crore and projected to generate 1.1 lakh jobs. These numbers reflect not only speed, but scale and substance,” he added.

These projects span 20 sectors — from Odisha’s traditional strengths in mining and metals to emerging industries like chemicals, food processing, apparel, renewable energy, electronics, and tourism. CM Majhi noted that Odisha is fast evolving from being just the minerals and metals hub of India to a “diversified industrial powerhouse.”

Looking ahead, the Chief Minister outlined four key priorities for the coming year:

New Industrial Policies: Aimed at unlocking potential in emerging sectors and boosting global competitiveness.

Infrastructure Expansion: Including a larger land bank and upgraded industrial zones to cater to future demand.

Ease of Doing Business: With a modern single-window clearance and real-time integrated project tracking platform.

Regulatory Reforms: Focused on deregulation and simplification of complex rules and procedures to enable faster approvals and smoother operations.

He also laid out the government’s long-term vision for Samruddha Odisha 2036, a roadmap to transform the state into a high-growth economy by its centenary year.

“We will build on our leadership in mining, metals, and green chemicals with support from leading industrial players such as IOCL, JSW, JSPL, Tata Steel, AMNS, Vedanta, Hindalco, and Adani,” CM Majhi said. He further emphasized the development of port-based industrialisation, highlighting ongoing investments in new terminals, jetties, and container handling infrastructure along the Paradip-Dhamra-Gopalpur corridor.
