In a landmark push toward industrial growth, the Odisha government on Monday approved eight mega industrial projects with a combined investment of ₹1.51 lakh crore, projected to generate over 62,000 jobs across six districts of the state.

The approvals came during the High-Level Clearance Authority (HLCA) meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, marking a strong reaffirmation of the state’s commitment to becoming a premier investment destination.

The newly approved projects span key sectors such as aluminium, steel, chemicals, textiles, and downstream metal industries, and are strategically located in the districts of Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Khurda, and Sambalpur.

“Since June 12 last year, we have held six HLCA meetings, approving 62 projects with a total investment potential of ₹5.67 lakh crore and a projected job creation of 2.42 lakh. This progress underlines our commitment to ‘Viksit Bharat by 2047’ and ‘Samruddha Odisha by 2036’,” said Chief Minister Majhi.

Odisha, set to complete 100 years as a state in 2036, is positioning itself as a central pillar in India’s industrial future.

Vedanta Limited is spearheading the aluminium sector with a colossal ₹1.28 lakh crore proposal to set up a 3 MTPA aluminium smelter and a 4,900 MW captive power plant in Dhenkanal. The project alone is expected to create 30,000 jobs.

SRF Limited has proposed a ₹10,000 crore investment to establish a specialty chemicals and refrigerant manufacturing unit in Ganjam. The facility will have an annual production capacity of 2 lakh metric tonnes and generate around 20,000 jobs.

In steel, Jindal India Steel Tech Limited will invest ₹3,600 crore in a 1.26 MTPA specialty steel processing facility in Dhenkanal, adding 2,000 jobs.

Shyam Steel Manufacturing Limited plans to develop an integrated steel plant and DI pipe unit along with a 46 MW captive power plant in Keonjhar, investing ₹2,490 crore and creating 2,370 jobs.

Linde India Limited will set up an air separation unit in Jajpur for ₹1,303.5 crore, focusing on industrial gas production with 100 job opportunities.

In Sambalpur, Star Metal Works Private Limited will invest ₹2,291 crore to build a narrow hot strip mill, a cold rolling mill, and a plate-cum-Steckle mill, employing 250 people.

Supreme Metals Export Private Limited will establish a 1.2 MTPA TMT bar and wire rod rolling mill in Keonjhar with an outlay of ₹1,500 crore, creating 680 jobs.

In textiles, Sportking India Limited will invest ₹2,055 crore in Khurda for a cotton and blended yarn manufacturing unit with 62,000 MT capacity, opening up 4,800 job opportunities.

With these project approvals, Odisha continues to solidify its place as a rising powerhouse in India’s industrial landscape, aligning economic growth with inclusive job creation and long-term development goals.
