Reinforcing its commitment to fostering a robust safety culture across its operations, NTPC Northern Region Headquarters successfully conducted a comprehensive two-day Behavioural Safety Training Programme on April 28–29, 2025. The event was specially designed for Safety Officers and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Executives from various NTPC projects across the northern region.
The training was inaugurated by N. S. Rao, Regional Executive Director (North), who emphasized NTPC’s unwavering “Zero Tolerance” stance on accidents and near-miss incidents. In his keynote address, Shri Rao highlighted the vital role of proactive safety measures such as PEP talks, correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and consistent adherence to behavioural safety standards.
He urged safety executives to be the torchbearers of change by engaging directly with their teams, identifying potential hazards, and reinforcing a culture where safety is deeply ingrained in daily operations. “Frontline safety workers are our first line of defence,” he said. “Their vigilance and commitment are key to preventing workplace incidents.”
Adding further insight, GM (OS) Amreek Singh Bhogal underlined the necessity of behavioural change as a driving force behind a safety-conscious workforce. He stressed that creating awareness and altering unsafe behaviour patterns were central to accident prevention.
Samiran Sinha Ray, Regional Head of HR, explained that the training aimed to foster individual behavioural awareness, equipping participants with practical tools to implement effective safety measures on-site.
The technical sessions were led by Suprio Bhattacharya, an expert faculty in behavioural safety, who delivered engaging and practical modules. His sessions included real-world examples and actionable strategies for identifying and mitigating unsafe practices, resonating strongly with attendees.
Participants lauded the training for its relevance, depth, and applicability, noting that the sessions had enhanced their understanding of safety from a behavioural perspective. The programme concluded with a renewed commitment among attendees to champion safety at all levels of operation.
