Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, has introduced a range of proactive measures to support both local communities and its workforce in Jharsuguda, Odisha, as the region grapples with intense summer heat. These efforts are aimed at improving access to clean drinking water and ensuring the health and safety of those working in high-temperature environments.
Prolonged exposure to extreme heat and humidity can cause serious health issues, including heat exhaustion and dehydration. Recognising the urgent need for accessible hydration, Vedanta Aluminium has set up multiple drinking water kiosks in high-footfall areas across nearby villages. These kiosks provide continuous access to clean, safe drinking water, offering much-needed relief to residents during the ongoing heatwave.
Within its plant operations, the company has launched a comprehensive ‘Summer Well-being Programme’ to safeguard employees and business partners working in challenging conditions. The initiative includes the installation of Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) stations and chilled water dispensers across key operational zones. These facilities help maintain hydration and electrolyte balance, reducing the risk of heat-related ailments among on-ground personnel.
Commenting on the initiative, Sunil Gupta, Chief Operating Officer, Vedanta Aluminium, said, “At Vedanta, we remain deeply committed to the well-being of both our employees and the communities we operate in. The installation of water kiosks reflects our core philosophy of creating a positive impact through meaningful, need-based interventions. We continue to explore new avenues to ensure the health, safety, and comfort of all our stakeholders, especially during extreme weather conditions.”
Appreciating the company’s community outreach, Sanjeet Mohapatra of Shree Krishna Enterprises, a local business partner, shared, “This summer has been exceptionally harsh, and the water kiosks set up by Vedanta have been a true lifesaver. They are especially crucial for the elderly and children, helping them stay hydrated and safe. We are genuinely grateful for this thoughtful support during such a difficult time.”
These initiatives underscore Vedanta Aluminium’s commitment to blending sustainable community engagement with operational excellence. By prioritising the health and welfare of its people and neighbours, the company continues to drive long-term value creation through responsible and inclusive practices.
Vedanta Aluminium, a business of Vedanta Limited, is India’s largest aluminium producer, contributing over 50% of the nation’s output with 2.42 million tonnes in FY25. The company leads in manufacturing value-added aluminium products used in key industries and has been ranked 2nd globally in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2024 for the aluminium sector. With world-class smelters, an alumina refinery, and power plants in India, Vedanta Aluminium is advancing the role of aluminium as the ‘Metal of the Future’ for a greener and more sustainable tomorrow.
