200 hygiene kits distributed to adolescent girls at Salakati ME School under Swachhata Pakhwada by NTPC Bongaigaon and Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club

As part of the Swachhata Pakhwada observance from May 16 to 31, 2025, the Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club of NTPC Bongaigaon organized a special awareness programme on May 21 at Salakati ME School in Kokrajhar, Assam. The initiative aimed to promote hygiene awareness among schoolchildren, with a focused session on menstrual hygiene management for adolescent girls.

In her address, Kasturi Maitra, President of the Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club, underscored that menstrual hygiene is not only a health concern but also a matter of self-respect and empowerment. She stressed the importance of early education in helping girls grow up with awareness, confidence, and dignity. Appreciating the collaborative efforts of NTPC Bongaigaon and the school, she reaffirmed the Ladies Club’s ongoing commitment to the upliftment of women and girl children through continuous community engagement.

Adding further value to the programme, Dr. Chandni Brahma from NTPC Bongaigaon Hospital conducted an engaging awareness session on personal hygiene and safe menstrual practices. She explained the correct usage and disposal of sanitary napkins and addressed common concerns faced by adolescent girls. Her session aimed to enhance understanding of menstrual health as an essential aspect of overall well-being.

A total of 200 hygiene kits were distributed to adolescent girls, equipping them with essential resources and information to support healthy menstrual hygiene practices and improve personal health outcomes.

The event witnessed active participation from members of the Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club, including Vice President Soumya Kar and other office bearers. NTPC representatives Pranami Handique, Senior Manager (HR), and Smriti Das, Executive (CSR), also extended their support to the programme.

The event stands as a testament to the shared commitment of NTPC Bongaigaon and the Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club towards community welfare, aligning with the broader objectives of the Swachhata Pakhwada initiative.
