TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL), a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, has announced the launch of Smart Meters across all consumer categories, setting a new benchmark in efficient and transparent energy management. This initiative aligns with the directives from the Government of India, the Government of Odisha, and the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC).
The rollout of Smart Meters signifies a significant shift towards digitized energy management. These meters will enable automated reading and billing, ensuring consumers receive accurate and timely bills without errors. The adoption of Smart Meters is poised to enhance customer experience by eliminating discrepancies commonly associated with manual billing processes.
Unlike some systems, TPCODL’s Smart Meters are installed in post-paid mode by default. However, consumers also have the option to request a pre-paid mode, providing flexibility based on individual needs.
A standout feature of this initiative is the integration of Smart Meters with the Mitra App, a user-friendly platform designed to empower consumers with real-time data. The app allows users to track their daily electricity consumption in a graphical format for up to 30 days. This feature enables consumers to better plan their energy usage, monitor trends, and optimize their consumption, ultimately leading to reduced electricity bills. Prepaid users will also benefit from the ability to monitor their remaining balance in real-time, giving them greater control over their energy expenses.
Through this initiative, TPCODL is not just enhancing billing accuracy but also empowering consumers to make informed decisions about their energy usage. The discom’s goal is to foster transparency, reduce energy wastage, and make electricity management more efficient for all.
