Jindal Steel & Power (JSP) reaffirmed its commitment to environmental stewardship with vibrant celebrations of World Environment Day across its Barbil Pellet Plant, Kasia, and Tensa mines. Aligned with the global theme ‘Beat Plastic Pollution,’ the company organized a series of impactful initiatives that brought together employees, families, local communities, and forest officials.
JSP Chairman and three-time MP from Kurukshetra, Naveen Jindal, underscored the urgency of the cause in a message shared on social media. “The effects of plastic pollution are far-reaching. It significantly impacts our environment and adds to our carbon footprint through its production and disposal. By cutting down on single-use plastics, choosing reusable options, and encouraging sustainable alternatives, we can all make a meaningful difference,” he stated, encouraging a collective push towards sustainability.
At the Barbil Pellet Plant, the day commenced with a mini marathon and a mass plantation drive, led by Unit Head Purushotham M D. Employees and their families actively participated, reinforcing a strong sense of community engagement. The celebrations concluded with a felicitation ceremony honouring winners of theme-based competitions, spotlighting creativity and environmental awareness.
Kasia Mines observed the occasion with equal enthusiasm. Under the leadership of Unit Head Pramod Kumar Patra, the day featured a solemn pledge ceremony, a thought-provoking street play, and a tree plantation initiative. The event was graced by Guali Forester Shri Sarat Pattnayak and Barbil Forester Shri Ashutosh Chakraborty, whose presence reinforced the message of ecological responsibility.
At Tensa Mines, a dynamic mix of activities unfolded under the guidance of Unit Head Raghuraj Raghubanshi. The programme included plantation drives, a cleanliness campaign, awareness pledges, and a vibrant art competition. Barsuan Ranger Shri Dharanidhar Sahoo joined senior officers, employees, and their families to mark the occasion.
All events were meticulously organized by the Environment Management Departments at the respective units, demonstrating JSP’s integrated approach to environmental care.
Adding further momentum, JSP’s social arm, the Jindal Foundation, spearheaded grassroots initiatives such as the planting of fruit-bearing trees, street plays, drawing contests for schoolchildren, and the distribution of reusable cotton bags to villagers. The day concluded with a compelling exhibition on environmental conservation and plastic waste reduction at Jindal Nagar, Deojhar, drawing considerable community participation.
