Vedanta Aluminium transforms Jharsuguda healthcare landscape with renovated Satellite Hospital and holistic support

Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, has made a landmark contribution to healthcare in Jharsuguda by supporting the comprehensive renovation of the old District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). The upgraded facility has now been inaugurated as a fully operational Satellite Hospital at Mangal Bazaar, in the presence of state leaders, local authorities, and community members.

As part of its commitment, Vedanta Aluminium has donated 25 hospital beds to the facility, enhancing its patient care capacity and enabling the delivery of more effective healthcare services. This initiative marks a crucial step in expanding access to quality medical care for residents across Jharsuguda and neighbouring rural areas.

Vedanta has pledged continued, long-term support to the Satellite Hospital, aiming to ensure its sustained growth and operational excellence. This initiative reflects the company’s larger commitment to building strong healthcare infrastructure and strengthening public health systems in underserved regions.

Lauding the initiative, Odisha’s Health Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling said, “Vedanta Aluminium’s commitment to reopening and strengthening the Satellite Hospital in Jharsuguda exemplifies the vital role of corporate partnerships in enhancing public healthcare. Their sustained support will significantly improve access to quality medical services for the community. This collaboration sets a strong precedent for building a healthier Odisha through shared responsibility and collective action.”

Jharsuguda MLA Tankadhar Tripathy also commended the company’s role, noting that Vedanta Aluminium has been a committed partner in the region’s development. He said the company’s support to the District Satellite Hospital would enhance patient care and commended their broader healthcare efforts, including the setup of a diagnostic centre and the operation of mobile health services, which are bridging critical gaps in rural and urban healthcare access.

Highlighting Vedanta’s contribution, Jharsuguda District Collector Aboli Sunil Naravane said, “This support from Vedanta Aluminium will go a long way in boosting the infrastructure of our district healthcare services. The additional beds will help the hospital better manage patient load, especially during peak periods. We deeply value Vedanta’s proactive involvement in enhancing healthcare access across the district.”

Sharing his thoughts on the occasion, Sunil Gupta, Chief Operating Officer – Vedanta Aluminium, said, “At Vedanta, we believe that access to quality healthcare is a cornerstone of community development. The Satellite Hospital renovation is part of a broader series of impactful healthcare initiatives undertaken by Vedanta Aluminium in Jharsuguda. The company has established a state-of-the-art Diagnostic Centre in the vicinity, where residents can access advanced medical testing and high-end diagnostic services at government-approved rates. This ensures that quality healthcare remains both affordable and accessible for all.

In addition, Vedanta operates a Mobile Health Unit (MHU), which is equipped with expert medical staff and travels daily to remote villages in Jharsuguda. This unit provides essential services such as medical consultations, diagnostics, and free medicines to underserved populations, helping bridge the rural healthcare gap.

Further strengthening its healthcare initiatives, Vedanta Aluminium is also participating in the Government of India’s Nikshay Mitra programme. Through this collaboration, the company is distributing nutrition kits to tuberculosis (TB) patients, supporting their recovery and promoting better treatment outcomes.
