Tata Power-led Odisha Discoms have spearheaded a significant transformation in the state’s power distribution landscape, reinforcing energy reliability, ensuring equitable access, and laying the foundation for a future-ready infrastructure. A cornerstone of this transformation is the installation of over 40,000 new distribution transformers across the four Discoms, marking a major milestone in Odisha’s power sector development.
This large-scale infrastructure augmentation has significantly improved voltage stability, reduced technical losses, and enhanced the overall quality of power supply across both urban and rural areas. It has also enabled efficient load management during peak demand, mitigated the risk of local overloading, and ensured uninterrupted power supply to newly electrified and high-growth zones.
With a strengthened distribution network, Odisha is now better positioned to meet rising electricity demand from key sectors such as agriculture, MSMEs, and households. The upgraded capacity also sets the stage for seamless integration of renewable energy sources and the growing electric vehicle ecosystem.
Beyond infrastructure upgrades, the Discoms have delivered tangible improvements in operational efficiency. Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT&C) losses have been reduced by an average of 11%, while over 10 lakh new connections have been energized, ensuring 24×7 power availability across urban and rural areas.
This holistic capacity enhancement — driven by digitalization, robust maintenance protocols, and a customer-centric approach — has earned Odisha national recognition as a frontrunner in power distribution reforms. Notably, three Odisha Discoms were awarded A+ ratings in the 13th Integrated Rating of Power Distribution Utilities for FY 2024.
Tata Power-led Odisha Discoms remain steadfast in their commitment to building a resilient, responsive, and future-ready distribution network that aligns with the state’s vision for inclusive growth and long-term energy security.
The four Discoms — TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL), TP Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL), TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited (TPWODL), and TP Northern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPNODL) — operate as joint ventures with the Government of Odisha. Collectively, they serve a population of approximately 4.6 crore, covering both urban and rural regions across the state.
