TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL), a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, has taken several proactive measures to ensure preparedness during the monsoon season. These initiatives aim to maintain uninterrupted power supply and safeguard customers and stakeholders against seasonal electrical hazards.

The monsoon brings challenges such as waterlogging, lightning, and power fluctuations, all of which heighten the risk of electrical accidents. In response, TPCODL appeals to consumers to adopt essential safety practices to protect themselves, their families, and their properties.

TPCODL advises people to avoid entering waterlogged areas, as submerged electrical wires or appliances can pose a serious risk of electric shock. Consumers are encouraged to unplug non-essential electrical appliances during lightning, heavy rain, or storms to safeguard against power surges.

Homeowners should inspect their electrical installations at least once a year. This includes checking the functionality of RCCB/ELCB, MCBs, fuses, and earthing systems to ensure they are in proper working condition. It is equally important to maintain a safe distance from any fallen power lines and immediately report them to TPCODL. Citizens are reminded never to touch electrical poles or transformers, particularly during rainfall.

During storms, outdoor activities should be strictly avoided. People should refrain from taking shelter under tall trees or metal structures during lightning or heavy showers. Electrical outlets and switches must be kept dry and protected from moisture by using waterproof covers where necessary. Parents are also urged to educate children on the dangers of electricity and instill safe habits during the monsoon.

“Safety is our foremost priority at TPCODL, especially during the monsoon when risks escalate due to weather conditions,” said Arvind Singh, CEO, TPCODL. “We urge all our consumers to stay vigilant and follow these simple yet crucial safety measures. Together, we can ensure a safe and Consumers can report emergencies, power outages, or any electrical hazards through TPCODL’s 24×7 toll-free helpline numbers 1800-345-7122 or 1912.
