Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, has extended its support to the Prime Minister’s Nikshay Mitra initiative by aiding tuberculosis (TB) patients in the Balishankara block of Sundargarh district, Odisha. This effort aligns with the national ‘TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan’ (TB-Free India Campaign) and aims to improve recovery outcomes through nutritional support.

In collaboration with the Sundargarh district administration, Vedanta Aluminium has committed to providing year-long nutritional kits to 63 TB patients. The launch event witnessed the symbolic distribution of the kits in the presence of Dr. Suresh Chandra Mohanty, Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) – Sundargarh, along with ASHA workers and other dignitaries.

Commenting on the initiative, Rajiv Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, said, “Through Nikshay Mitra, we aim to contribute meaningfully to the national mission of a TB-free India. Nutritional support is a vital aspect of TB recovery. So far, we have supported over 550 patients in Jharsuguda and Kalahandi, and we are pleased to extend this support to Sundargarh. This initiative reaffirms our long-term commitment to improving community health in underserved regions.”

Dr. Suresh Chandra Mohanty, CDMO – Sundargarh, added, “Access to quality healthcare remains a challenge in remote areas. TB patients require sustained nutrition alongside medical treatment for effective recovery. Vedanta’s support will enhance treatment outcomes and strengthen government efforts at the grassroots level.”

Beyond healthcare, Vedanta Aluminium continues to empower local communities through initiatives in education, livelihood generation, infrastructure development, and promotion of grassroots sports and culture. These efforts underscore the company’s commitment to holistic and inclusive development across its operational areas, fostering long-term socio-economic transformation in Odisha.

Vedanta Aluminium, a business of Vedanta Limited, produced 2.42 million tonnes of aluminium in FY25 — over half of India’s total output. The company is a leader in value-added aluminium products serving core industries and ranks 2nd globally in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2024 for the aluminium sector — a testament to its world-class sustainability practices. With state-of-the-art smelters, an alumina refinery, and power plants across India, Vedanta Aluminium is helping position aluminium as the ‘Metal of the Future’ for a greener and more sustainable tomorrow.
