In a major boost to green skill development and India’s clean energy transition, Tata Power, through its training arm Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI) and in collaboration with TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL), inaugurated the TPSDI Green Energy Skill Centre in Cuttack today.

The Centre was formally inaugurated by Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde, Collector and District Magistrate of Cuttack, in the presence of Gajanan Kale, Chief – Odisha Distribution Business, Tata Power; Arvind Singh, CEO – TPCODL; and Alok Prasad, Head – TPSDI.

This first-of-its-kind facility in Odisha will equip local youth with industry-aligned, practical training in renewable energy technologies, including solar PV system installation and maintenance, energy efficiency, and electrical safety. The programs are mapped to NCVET and NSDC standards, offering participants nationally recognised certifications that will enhance their employability in the growing green energy sector.

Aligned with the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSGMBY) and the state government’s push for rooftop solar adoption, the Centre is designed to create a skilled workforce that can drive India’s clean energy ambitions at the grassroots level.

Adding further value, TPSDI launched a Student Handbook for DISCOM Officials on Grid-Connected Rooftop Solar Systems. This technical manual offers detailed guidance on design, installation, safety, and performance monitoring — empowering field professionals with the tools to enable efficient and safe solar implementation.

TPSDI is a recognised centre of excellence, offering over 200 modular courses across key sectors such as Green Energy, Safety, Transmission & Distribution, Power Systems, and Soft Skills. With over 3.43 lakh trainees and 1.3 million person-days of training clocked — including more than 50,000 individuals from affirmative action groups and 18,000 women — TPSDI is a proven force in inclusive and transformative skill development.

The newly inaugurated Cuttack centre marks TPSDI’s 13th training hub in India, adding to its network of existing hubs in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Kerala, Jharkhand, New Delhi, and Odisha. TPSDI also plans to launch seven more centres in Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and Assam this fiscal year, further scaling up green energy skilling nationwide.

With this initiative, Tata Power reaffirms its commitment to building a sustainable, self-reliant, and future-ready India, one skilled youth at a time.
