Reinforcing its commitment to sustainable mining and ecological stewardship, JSW Steel Odisha has launched an impactful sapling distribution initiative across its key mining regions. The Environment, Safety & Forest department of the company has spearheaded this campaign, aimed at revitalizing green cover and fostering environmental awareness among local communities.
As part of the initiative, around 700 fruit-bearing saplings were distributed to residents living near the company’s three major mining sites—Nuagaon, Ganua, and Narayanposhi. The selection of saplings included Guava, Jackfruit, Mango, Amla, Tangerine, Bael, Lemon, Sapota, and Jamun—species chosen for their adaptability, ecological value, and nutritional benefits.
At Nuagaon, approximately 250 saplings were handed out to local villagers, marking a significant step in community-driven greening efforts. In Ganua, the distribution was conducted at the Sevashram School, encouraging students and educators alike to participate in plantation drives. Meanwhile, in the Narayanposhi region of Sundergarh district, 190 saplings were provided to residents, aligning with broader objectives to strengthen ecological balance in mining-affected areas.
Underscoring the importance of the initiative, Mines Managers Arundeep Bhattacharjee (Nuagaon Mines), Tapan Rath (Narayanposhi Mines), and Atmaranjan Pradhan (Ganua Mine) were present during the drives, lending strong leadership support to the environmental programme.
Company officials reiterated that the initiative is part of a larger reforestation strategy around JSW’s mining leases, designed not only to restore biodiversity but also to create lasting environmental resilience through active local participation. By integrating community involvement into its sustainability roadmap, JSW Steel Odisha continues to set benchmarks in responsible mining and green development.
