Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys Ltd (IMFA), India’s leading producer of ferro alloys, has announced the appointment of Dr B K Mishra as the Non-Executive Chairman of the Company. Dr Mishra, a distinguished metallurgical engineer from NIT Rourkela with a PhD from the University of Utah, USA, brings to the role decades of experience in academia, research, and industrial innovation.

Before joining IMFA’s Board as an Independent Director in March 2024, Dr Mishra held various prominent academic positions, including his tenure as a professor at IIT Kanpur and later as the founding Director of IIT Goa. His illustrious contributions to metallurgy and materials science have earned him numerous accolades, including the IEEE IAS Global Lifetime Achievement Award—an honour that reflects his impactful service to academics, research, and society.

Dr Mishra succeeds NR Mohanty, who has stepped down after completing his term. Mr Mohanty, whose career culminated as the Chairman and Managing Director of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, joined IMFA’s Board as an Independent Director in 2005 and took over as Non-Executive Chairman in July 2021. His leadership was instrumental in guiding the Company through evolving business cycles and maintaining a steady focus on stakeholder value creation.

Welcoming the new appointment, Subhrakant Panda, Managing Director of IMFA, said, “I warmly congratulate Dr BK Mishra on behalf of the management. He has exceptional knowledge relating to the Company’s core business, and I look forward to his guidance as we execute expansion plans to emerge as the clear leader in the sector.”

He also extended his appreciation to the outgoing Chairman, saying, “I would also like to express gratitude to NR Mohanty for his invaluable contribution over the years that has helped us navigate through business cycles and focus on creating value for stakeholders. On behalf of my colleagues, I wish him good health and a long life.”
