The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hero MotoCorp Limited to scale and support early-stage startups through the ‘Hero For Startups’ innovation accelerator programme. The collaboration, under the Startup India initiative, is aimed at nurturing entrepreneurs working on the future of mobility, clean technology, and deep technology.
Through this partnership, selected startups will gain unprecedented access to Hero MotoCorp’s advanced research and development facilities in both Germany and India, as well as its vast dealer, supplier, and partner network. The accelerator will also offer mentorship from industry veterans, along with opportunities to develop paid Proofs of Concept (PoCs) that can lead to successful pilots, market validation, and wider commercial adoption.
DPIIT Joint Secretary Sanjiv said the partnership with Hero MotoCorp would reinforce the government’s mission to empower product-focused startups addressing India’s mobility challenges. “By connecting industry experience with grassroots innovation, we aim to fast-track the journey from idea to impact, especially in emerging technologies and Tier II and III markets,” he noted.
Hero MotoCorp’s Executive Chairman, Dr. Pawan Munjal, emphasised the company’s role not only as an automotive leader but also as a nation-builder, aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 articulated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “India’s vibrant startup ecosystem is a vital force in shaping a self-reliant and globally competitive Bharat. Our partnership with DPIIT reflects our commitment to nurturing this entrepreneurial spirit,” he said.
The MoU was signed by DPIIT Director Dr. Sumeet Jarangal and Hero MotoCorp’s Global Innovation Portfolio Lead Utkarsh Mishra, in the presence of senior officials from both organisations. The collaboration is expected to create new pathways for innovation-led industrial growth, furthering the national goals of Make in India, Atmanirbhar Bharat, and Viksit Bharat@2047.
