“At Vedanta Aluminium, we believe in harmonizing industrial growth with community welfare,” said Sunil Gupta, Chief Operating Officer of Vedanta Aluminium, as he lauded the success of a transformative 10-day Filaria Awareness Campaign held in Jharsuguda. Organised in collaboration with the district administration, the campaign reached nearly 2.7 lakh people across the region, setting a new benchmark for corporate-driven public health outreach.

The initiative aimed to raise awareness about filaria, a neglected tropical disease that poses a serious health risk during the monsoon season. By combining the expertise of the district’s health authorities with Vedanta Aluminium’s grassroots outreach capabilities, the campaign actively promoted preventive healthcare practices across all five blocks of Jharsuguda district.

At the heart of the campaign was the “Awareness Ratha“, a mobile educational chariot that traversed the district, disseminating crucial information through public announcements and printed materials. In addition, health awareness camps were held at strategic locations, drawing active participation from Vedanta employees, community members, local leaders, and health professionals.

The campaign was inaugurated at the Reserve Police Ground in the presence of key dignitaries, including Brajabandhu Bhoi (ADM – General), Dr. L.K. Karmi (ADMO I/C), and Dr. Radha Raman Bhirtia (Additional District Public Health Officer). The officials emphasized the urgent need for proactive measures to prevent the spread of filaria, especially through timely medication and community engagement.

Dr. Radha Raman Bhirtia underscored the importance of cross-sectoral partnerships, saying, “Collaborations between industry and public health are essential for driving meaningful change. Vedanta’s support in the campaign, especially through the Awareness Ratha, helped us connect with people at the grassroots, raise awareness, and encourage participation.”

Through this impactful campaign, Vedanta Aluminium has once again demonstrated its commitment to building healthier, more resilient communities, reinforcing its vision of integrating industrial progress with inclusive development.

Vedanta Aluminium’s extensive CSR footprint in Jharsuguda spans education, healthcare, skill development, livelihood, grassroots sports, art and culture, with a special focus on women and child development. The company’s interventions impact over 3.5 lakh people annually across nearly 80 villages in the region.

A business of Vedanta Limited, Vedanta Aluminium is India’s largest aluminium producer, accounting for more than 50 per cent of the country’s aluminium output, with 2.42 million tonnes produced in FY25. Renowned for its sustainability-led growth, Vedanta Aluminium ranked 2nd globally in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2024 for the aluminium sector.
