Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, marked Engineers’ Day by celebrating the contributions of its nearly 2,000 engineers who are driving innovation, safety, efficiency, and sustainability across its operations. With an average age of just 29–30 years, this young and dynamic workforce blends technical expertise with fresh ideas to shape the future of India’s metals and minerals industry. Spread across Jharsuguda and Lanjigarh in Odisha, and Korba in Chhattisgarh, they represent diverse regions and cultures.

Adding to the celebrations, the company achieved a landmark milestone at its Jharsuguda facility by commissioning India’s first potline to be operated entirely by women. This pioneering initiative underscores Vedanta’s commitment to gender parity and aligns with its vision of achieving 30% female representation across its workforce by FY2030. Women engineers and technicians now manage the entire smelter line, setting a new benchmark in industrial manufacturing.

The company’s journey of inclusive growth is reflected in inspiring stories such as that of Suprita Nanda, the first woman engineer at Vedanta Jharsuguda in 2006. Over nearly two decades, she has led greenfield projects, quality and contract management, and infrastructure development. Today, she oversees a ₹1,000 crore project portfolio, symbolising the growing leadership of women across Vedanta Aluminium.

Speaking on the occasion, Rajiv Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, said: “Our engineers are the driving force behind our manufacturing excellence. From pioneering digital transformation in aluminium production to embedding sustainability into every process, their contributions go far beyond the factory floor. The commissioning of India’s first women-led potline at Jharsuguda is a proud milestone that reflects our commitment to building inclusive and future-ready workplaces.”

Vedanta Aluminium continues to nurture new talent through Graduate Engineer Trainee (GET) programmes and continuous upskilling initiatives that prepare engineers for emerging technologies. Partnerships with academia and R&D institutions have enabled breakthroughs in areas such as converting industrial waste into battery-grade graphite and using digital twin models to simulate plant operations.

Employing engineers from diverse disciplines — including chemical, civil, electrical, mining, thermal, computer and mechanical — Vedanta Aluminium leverages multidisciplinary expertise to fuel product innovation, process optimisation, and sustainable growth.

As India’s largest aluminium producer, manufacturing over 2.42 million tonnes in FY25, Vedanta Aluminium supplies more than half of the country’s aluminium. Its value-added products power critical industries, while its sustainability leadership is reflected in its 2nd rank in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2024 for the global aluminium sector. With world-class smelters, an alumina refinery, and power plants, the company continues to champion aluminium as the ‘Metal of the Future’ for a greener tomorrow.
