Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer and the country’s leading billet manufacturer, has launched its new 5-inch aluminium billets at ALUMEX India 2025, the nation’s first dedicated aluminium extrusion exhibition and conference. With this launch, the company is expanding its extensive billet portfolio to meet surging domestic and global demand while advancing towards a capacity of 1.25 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).
The newly introduced 5-inch billets are engineered for high-precision applications across industries such as automotive, aerospace, HVAC, construction, and renewable energy. They are particularly suited for producing small to medium profiles, seamless tubes, condenser tubes, busbars, rods, handles, and hollow profiles like window and door frames. They can also be cut into slugs for forging components in the automotive and aerospace sectors.
With a current portfolio spanning diameters from 5 to 12 inches, Vedanta Aluminium now offers one of the most versatile billet ranges globally, backed by superior metallography, metal hygiene, and advanced process controls.
Alongside the product launch, the company announced its roadmap to expand billet casting capacity from 580 KTPA to 1.25 MTPA, reinforcing its leadership in India, where it commands more than half of the domestic billet market. The expansion is part of Vedanta Aluminium’s vision to grow value-added products to **90% of its portfolio**, catering to fast-growing sectors such as electric vehicles, solar energy, railways, and defence.
Rajiv Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, said: “The launch of our 5-inch billets marks a milestone in strengthening India’s aluminium extrusion ecosystem. With their versatility across multiple industries, these billets will enable downstream players to deliver greater precision, performance, and sustainability. As India’s largest billet producer and among the top three globally, we remain committed to innovation, capacity expansion, and positioning India as a leader in the global aluminium value chain.”
Vedanta Aluminium operates a 1.8 MTPA smelter at Jharsuguda, Odisha, and a 0.57 MTPA smelter at BALCO, Korba, Chhattisgarh, placing it among the top global billet producers. The company also pioneers sustainable variants through its Restora and Restora Ultra brands, produced using renewable energy and dross recovery, respectively — delivering among the world’s lowest carbon footprints.
At ALUMEX India 2025, Vedanta Aluminium is showcasing its next-generation billet range manufactured with cutting-edge technologies such as Wagstaff Hot-Top Air Slip casting and Hertwich homogenizing furnaces, designed for superior metallurgical properties and recovery rates.
Organised by the Aluminium Extrusion Manufacturers Association of India (ALEMAI), ALUMEX India 2025 is serving as a premier platform to promote innovation, skill development, and sustainability in India’s fast-evolving aluminium extrusion sector.
