Adani Energy Solutions achieves Zero-Waste-to-Landfill certification, pioneering sustainable practices in the energy sector

In a significant milestone for environmental sustainability, Adani Energy Solutions (AESL) has been certified as a Zero-Waste-to-Landfill (ZWL) organisation by Intertek, a global leader in Total Quality Assurance. This certification marks AESL as a trailblazer in the energy sector, achieving a remarkable 100% diversion rate and eliminating all landfill waste across its operations.

The ZWL certification is a prestigious recognition that requires organisations to divert at least 90% of their waste away from landfills. AESL has exceeded this threshold, adopting a comprehensive waste management policy focused on reducing, reusing, recycling, and recovering resources. By doing so, AESL has successfully conserved resources, minimized its environmental footprint, and demonstrated leadership in resource efficiency.

Since embarking on its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) journey in FY21, AESL has aimed to secure a position among the “Top 10 Electric Utility Companies globally” for ESG performance. Over the past three years, the company has maintained an impressive waste diversion rate of 99.87%, 99.88%, and 99.99%, setting an industry benchmark as India’s first transmission company to achieve over 99% diversion for three consecutive years. This year, AESL has gone above and beyond by becoming the only transmission utility in India to reach the golden figure of 100% diversion, solidifying its commitment to operational excellence and sustainability.

With operational sites spread across 54 locations in 16 states, including remote and challenging terrains, AESL’s achievement is a testament to the company’s dedication and resourcefulness. Despite the logistical difficulties posed by some of its more inhospitable locations, AESL has effectively integrated sustainability into its day-to-day operations, further cementing its role as a leader in the energy sector.
