Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of the Mahi Banswara Rajasthan Atomic Power Project (MBRAPP), a 4×700 MW nuclear power plant, on September 25 in Banswara, Rajasthan. With an estimated investment of ₹42,000 crore, the project is set to become one of India’s largest nuclear facilities, supplying reliable base load power while advancing the nation’s clean energy ambitions.
Developed by Anushakti Vidhyut Nigam Ltd (ASHVINI) — a joint venture of NPCIL (51%) and NTPC (49%) — the project comprises four indigenous 700 MW Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs), known as IPHWR-700, designed with advanced safety features by NPCIL. It is part of India’s “fleet mode” program to construct ten similar reactors across the country, reinforcing the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative through standardized design, faster deployment, and enhanced cost efficiency.
On completion, MBRAPP will supply affordable and sustainable power to Rajasthan and other regions, while creating substantial direct and indirect employment. It is expected to catalyze growth in local industries, businesses, and communities, aligning with India’s energy security and decarbonization goals.
On the same occasion, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate the 925 MW RSDCL Nokh Solar Park at Phalodi, Rajasthan, where NTPC is developing 735 MW. The solar park will generate significant green energy and prevent millions of tonnes of carbon emissions annually, further positioning Rajasthan as a hub for India’s clean energy transformation.
