Jindal Steel has achieved a landmark in India’s steelmaking journey with the commissioning of the Bhagavati Subhadrika Blast Furnace–II, one of the largest and most advanced blast furnaces in the world. With a capacity of 5 MTPA and a useful volume of 5,499 m², the new furnace has doubled Angul’s production potential, positioning it firmly as the country’s largest single-location steel facility.

The ceremonial “blow-in” of the furnace was led by Naveen Jindal, Chairman of Jindal Steel, who hailed the milestone as a defining moment for both the company and India’s march towards self-reliance in steelmaking. “Commissioning the Bhagavati Subhadrika Blast Furnace at Angul is a proud moment for Jindal Steel and for India. By doubling Angul’s capacity to 12 MTPA, we are strengthening our global competitiveness and reaffirming our commitment to Atmanirbhar Bharat. Rooted in Odisha’s culture and powered by cutting-edge technology, this furnace represents our vision to unite tradition with innovation,” he said.

Engineered with advanced automation, a safety-first design, and enhanced sustainability features, the Bhagavati Subhadrika Blast Furnace sets new benchmarks for efficiency and reliability in large-scale steel production.

This achievement marks a decisive step forward in Jindal Steel’s long-term growth strategy, with Angul serving as the central hub of its future expansion. Upcoming projects include a dedicated port at Paradeep, a slurry pipeline and coal pipe conveyor to streamline raw material logistics, the Shreebhoomi Power Plant, and new coke oven facilities. Together, these initiatives will transform Angul into the cornerstone of Jindal Steel’s global growth ambitions, cementing its role as a driving force in India’s industrial future.
