Jindal Stainless, India’s largest stainless steel manufacturer, through its wholly owned subsidiary Jindal Stainless Steelway Limited (JSSL), has inaugurated its first stainless steel fabrication unit at Washivali, Patalganga, in Mumbai. The milestone initiative marks a major step toward redefining integrated infrastructure excellence in the country. Spanning four lakh square feet, the state-of-the-art facility is designed to serve the bridge sector, with a focus on fabricating various types of girders and other critical components. The unit was inaugurated by Tarun Khulbe, CEO & CFO, Jindal Stainless, in the presence of senior leadership from the company.
Developed with an initial investment of approximately ₹125 crore, the facility represents a strategic leap for the company — strengthening its position not only as a leading supplier of stainless steel materials but also as a provider of end-to-end fabrication solutions for India’s rapidly growing infrastructure sector. By FY26-27, the unit aims to achieve an annual fabrication capacity of 18,000 tonnes, up from the current 4,000 tonnes, to meet the surging demand for sustainable, high-quality bridge infrastructure. Beyond enhancing capacity, the plant will directly generate over 250 jobs and benefit more than 150 families indirectly. It will also serve as a centre of excellence for skill development, helping build a workforce equipped for the infrastructure needs of tomorrow.
Commenting on the launch, Abhyuday Jindal, Managing Director, Jindal Stainless, said, “This fabrication unit marks another step in our pursuit of delivering integrated solutions to customers. Bridges are critical connectors — linking people, businesses, and economies across the nation. With this facility, we aim to implement robust end-to-end quality management, ensuring that these vital structures are built to the highest standards while contributing to India’s broader infrastructure growth.”
Speaking at the ceremony, Tarun Khulbe, CEO & CFO, Jindal Stainless, added, “Building a trained fabricator ecosystem has long been a challenge in translating the excellence of sustainable stainless steel into dependable, high-quality fabrications. With this facility, we are bridging that gap by integrating material excellence, skilled fabrication, and streamlined processes to deliver timely, superior, and sustainable infrastructure solutions.”
Jindal Stainless has long been a trusted partner in supplying stainless steel for several of India’s landmark infrastructure projects. Unlike carbon steel, which is susceptible to corrosion and has been associated with structural failures in urban bridges, stainless steel offers a lifespan of over 100 years with minimal maintenance — ensuring safer, corrosion-resistant, and more sustainable structures. The launch of this pioneering fabrication unit reinforces the company’s commitment to delivering durable, high-performance infrastructure solutions. Alongside producing premium stainless steel, the company will now directly fabricate critical bridge components such as girders, arches, nuts and bolts, handles, and other structural parts — offering comprehensive end-to-end services to infrastructure developers.
Looking ahead, Jindal Stainless plans to expand its fabrication capabilities to other regions across India. In alignment with the company’s ESG commitments, the Mumbai fabrication unit will also be equipped with solar power in its next phase, further enhancing its sustainability credentials.
