Centurion University sets sail with inauguration of School of Maritime Studies

Marking a new chapter in skill-based higher education, Centurion University of Technology and Management (CUTM), one of India’s leading private skill universities, inaugurated its School of Maritime Studies at the Jatni campus on Monday. The state-of-the-art facility was formally inaugurated by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary, who lauded the university’s commitment to integrating skills with academics.

Speaking at the inauguration, Chaudhary said, “Team Centurion has worked with remarkable comprehensiveness, and the leadership at the university is deeply committed to transforming education through effective skill integration. The objective is to ensure that students not only earn certificates and diplomas but also acquire industry-ready competencies for secure and sustainable careers.”

The minister further highlighted the university’s growing ecosystem of specialized centres in diverse domains such as agriculture, electric vehicles, automotive engineering, manufacturing, and fashion design. The newly launched Centre for Maritime Studies, with a training capacity of 1,200 students, will offer a comprehensive range of programmes including maritime logistics, port operations, shipbuilding, ship repair, and LNG terminal management.

Emphasizing the vast potential of India’s maritime industry, Chaudhary noted that the sector is poised for accelerated growth as the government continues to strengthen major ports and inland waterways. Applauding Odisha’s historic maritime legacy, he urged the state’s youth to seize emerging opportunities in this sector and play a pivotal role in shaping the nation’s maritime future.

The event was graced by Prof. Supriya Pattanayak, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mukti Mishra, President, and Prof. (Dr.) Ajaya Kumar Nayak, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Administration), along with students, faculty members, and industry representatives.

Approved by DG Shipping and accredited by DNV, the School of Maritime Studies stands as a Maritime Training Institute (MTI) and a proud member of the International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU). Equipped with cutting-edge marine simulators and advanced training infrastructure, it aims to produce globally competent professionals for the maritime and blue economy sectors.

In addition to offering internationally benchmarked degree and diploma programmes, the school provides specialized maritime skill training for African nations, reinforcing Centurion University’s growing role in international collaboration and capacity building.
