“At Vedanta, safety is a shared value that defines our purpose and performance.” With this powerful statement, C Chandru, CEO of Vedanta Jharsuguda, set the tone for the Power Safety Circle Conclave — a flagship initiative by Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, aimed at strengthening the culture of industrial safety and operational excellence.

The conclave, held at Vedanta’s mega aluminium plant in Jharsuguda, brought together over 200 participants, including teams from STEAG Energy Services and NTPC GE Power Service Private Limited (NGSL), in a unique collaboration focused on proactive risk management and innovation in safety practices. Designed as a collaborative safety excellence programme, the initiative seeks to instill safety as an instinctive part of Vedanta’s operational DNA by empowering shopfloor teams to identify, assess, and eliminate potential hazards.

During the conclave, 26 participating teams presented their innovative safety improvement projects before an expert jury. The most impactful ideas were recognized across four categories — Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze — with 34 outstanding projects receiving awards for their creativity, practicality, and potential for replication across Vedanta’s operations.

Highlighting the strategic intent behind the initiative, CEO C Chandru said, “The Power Safety Circle Conclave exemplifies how we are empowering teams at every level to take ownership of a safety-first approach and integrate it into daily operations. Through our collaboration with STEAG Energy Services and NTPC GE Power Service Private Limited, we aim to enhance both safety culture and operational reliability across the wider industry.”

Adding perspective, R.K. Singh, Head – TPP, STEAG Energy Services, said, “Our association with Vedanta Aluminium demonstrates how technical expertise and a strong safety vision can combine to create tangible outcomes. This collaboration helps implement data-driven safety practices that reinforce process reliability and vigilance on the ground.”

Echoing similar sentiments, M.S. Patel, Head – CPP, NTPC GE Power Service Private Limited (NGSL), said, “Partnering with Vedanta Aluminium through the Power Safety Circle Conclave has allowed us to deploy practical safety solutions while engaging employees directly, making safety a shared responsibility.”

The conclave underscored Vedanta Aluminium’s commitment to industrial safety and community well-being, setting new benchmarks in safety awareness and employee engagement. The Jharsuguda plant already serves as a model of safety innovation, featuring a ‘Safety Galaxy Park’ — an interactive facility that demonstrates safety tools, systems, and frameworks to visitors and new employees.

As a business of Vedanta Limited, Vedanta Aluminium produces more than half of India’s aluminium output — 2.42 million tonnes in FY25 — and stands second globally in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2024 for the aluminium sector. With world-class smelters, refineries, and power assets, the company continues to drive its mission of making aluminium the “Metal of the Future” — powering sustainable growth and a greener tomorrow through innovation, collaboration, and safety leadership.
