RSP’s Hot Strip Mill-2 sets new benchmark with record single-day output

In a major production milestone, the Hot Strip Mill–2 (HSM-2) of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a unit of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), has set a new single-day production record, reflecting the plant’s growing operational excellence and efficiency.

On October 10, 2025, HSM-2 rolled 9,733 tonnes of slab weight to produce 403 coils weighing 9,524 tonnes — surpassing its previous best of 9,671 tonnes of slabs and 9,450 tonnes of coils recorded just a month earlier on September 10.

To commemorate the achievement, senior RSP officials including Tarun Misra, ED (HR); Biswaranjan Palai, ED (Works); and Anil Kumar, ED (MM) visited the department on October 13 to congratulate the HSM-2 collective for their stellar performance. Several CGMs and senior officers also joined in the celebration, acknowledging the team’s commitment to operational excellence.

Expressing pride in the accomplishment, Subrat Kumar, CGM (HSM & Auxiliaries), extended gratitude to the management and all supporting departments whose synergy made the record possible. The success was attributed to seamless coordination among the HSM-2 collective and allied departments such as PPC, Roll Shop, C&IT, Instrumentation & Automation, Centralised Electrical and Mechanical, Refractories, Design, Traffic & Raw Materials, SMS, Power Distribution, RCL, and Materials Management.
