Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, spread festive cheer this Diwali by organizing a heartwarming celebration that brought together employees, women entrepreneurs, and children in Jharsuguda. Through this initiative, the company underscored its ongoing commitment to community development.

As part of its festive celebrations, Vedanta Aluminium hosted Diya Painting Workshops in collaboration with members of the Subhalaxmi Cooperative and students from Nand Ghar. These workshops reflected the company’s dedication to nurturing strong community ties.

The Subhalaxmi Cooperative, one of Odisha’s largest Self-Help Group (SHG) networks, boasts over 5,000 members and empowers rural women by offering opportunities in micro-finance, skill development, financial literacy, and market linkages. Vedanta’s Nand Ghar program, a key community development initiative, focuses on transforming anganwadis into hubs of women and child development. Over 175 Nand Ghars are operational across Jharsuguda, with plans to expand by an additional 500 through a partnership with the District Administration.

The diyas used in the workshop were crafted by terracotta artisans as part of Vedanta’s livelihood initiative, VedMurtika. These lamps were then beautifully painted by Vedanta employee volunteers, women from Subhalaxmi Cooperative, and children from Nand Ghar. More than 30 employees participated in painting over 200 diyas, bringing the spirit of Diwali to life in a unique way. The initiative symbolized Vedanta Aluminium’s belief in “lighting lives” both within and outside the company.

Vedanta Jharsuguda CEO, C. Chandru, said, , “At Vedanta Aluminium, our people are at the heart of everything we do. This Diwali, our employees extended their celebration beyond the workplace to share joy with the community, creating an event that truly illuminated lives. We are deeply committed to the region’s development, and initiatives like these reaffirm our belief that unity can create lasting impact.”

Malti Rana, a terracotta artisan from the VedMurtika program, commented, “VedMurtika has given us not only a livelihood but recognition. Our art used to stay within our village, but now people from far and wide appreciate it. Seeing Vedanta employees join us in painting diyas made us feel truly connected and proud, knowing our craft is helping to light up many homes.”

Beyond its industrial excellence, Vedanta Aluminium’s mega plant in Jharsuguda places significant emphasis on enhancing the work-life experience for its employees. The company’s residential township, Vedanta Meadows, offers well-designed homes, green spaces, gymnasiums, multi-sport arenas, children’s play areas, healthcare centers, and community halls. At Vedanta Jharsuguda, festivals are celebrated not just as occasions, but as shared experiences that bring people together. Events such as Rath Yatra, Durga Puja, Onam, and Diwali are marked with decorations, traditional performances, music, and community feasts. These celebrations foster inclusion and belonging, allowing employees, their families, and local residents to come together in unity, regardless of their diverse traditions.

With a strong focus on regular community gatherings, cultural events, and wellness initiatives, Vedanta Aluminium aims to create a nurturing environment that promotes employee and family well-being.

Vedanta Aluminium, a part of Vedanta Limited, is India’s largest aluminium producer, manufacturing over half of the country’s aluminium—2.42 million tonnes in FY25.
