In a major boost to farmers across the country, Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has approved a comprehensive procurement plan worth ₹15,095.83 crore for the Kharif 2025–26 season. The plan covers pulses and oilseeds in Telangana, Odisha, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh and is expected to benefit lakhs of farmers by ensuring fair returns for their produce.

The approvals were granted under the Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay SanraksHan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA) and other flagship schemes of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare during a high-level virtual meeting with agriculture ministers and senior officials from the respective states.

In Telangana, the Union Minister approved the procurement of 4,430 metric tonnes (MT) of moong (green gram), accounting for 25% of the state’s total production, under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) at a cost of ₹38.44 crore. The procurement of urad (black gram) will be undertaken at 100 per cent, while 25 per cent procurement of soybean has also been sanctioned.

For Odisha, Chouhan approved the procurement of 18,470 MT of arhar (red gram), representing 100 per cent of the state’s total production, under PSS with a financial allocation of ₹147.76 crore.

Maharashtra will see one of the largest procurements under the plan, with approvals for 33,000 MT of moong, 3,25,680 MT of urad, and 18,50,700 MT of soybean under PSS. The total financial outlay for Maharashtra stands at ₹289.34 crore, ₹2,540.30 crore, and ₹9,860.53 crore, respectively.

In Madhya Pradesh, soybean procurement of 22,21,632 MT will be implemented under the Price Deficiency Payment Scheme (PDPS), with an approved financial implication of ₹1,775.53 crore.

Highlighting the government’s commitment to farmers’ welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the approvals are aimed at guaranteeing better returns for farmers, insulating them from market fluctuations, and ensuring income security — a vital step toward building an *Atmanirbhar Bharat* (Self-reliant India). He reiterated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the government’s top priority remains the prosperity and dignity of farmers.

“The record procurement of pulses and oilseeds for the Kharif 2025–26 season will not only ensure assured income for farmers but also strengthen the nation’s agricultural base and contribute to a self-reliant India,” Chouhan said.

He further announced that the government has arranged for 100% procurement of tur, urad, and masoor through NAFED (National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India) and NCCF (National Cooperative Consumers Federation of India), ensuring greater transparency and efficiency. Chouhan also emphasised that the direct benefits of procurement must reach farmers and directed that strict monitoring mechanisms be implemented to safeguard their interests.
