Union Minister of Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy on Tuesday inaugurated the Coal India Limited (CIL) pavilion at the India International Trade Fair (IITF) 2025, held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, signalling a renewed focus on innovation, sustainability and national energy security. The ceremony was attended by Additional Secretary, Ministry of Coal and Chairman, CIL, Sanoj Kumar Jha, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Coal, Sanjeev Kumar Kassi, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Coal, Lakhpat Singh Choudhary, along with other senior officials from the Ministry and CIL.

The pavilion has emerged as a major attraction at IITF, offering visitors an in-depth view of India’s evolving coal ecosystem and its contributions to self-reliant growth. From advanced mining technologies to future-ready diversification projects, the display highlights Coal India’s central role in shaping the nation’s energy narrative. Demonstrations of opencast mining techniques, the integration of Artificial Intelligence in coal operations and the functioning of the state-of-the-art Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) of CIL subsidiaries underline how technology is driving enhanced efficiency, precision and safety across the sector.

A key highlight is the live Virtual Reality (VR) experience, designed to simulate real-life scenarios in hazardous mining environments. The immersive module has been developed as a safe, cost-effective and engaging training tool that significantly strengthens operational preparedness and workforce safety norms. Visitors are also provided a glimpse into the power of VR as a transformative enabler of hands-on learning without physical exposure to risks.

The pavilion dedicates substantial focus to the Ministry of Coal’s coal gasification initiative, presented as a cornerstone of India’s clean coal transition. In addition, it exhibits impactful CSR efforts and showcases CIL’s eco-tourism and ecological restoration endeavours that blend environmental responsibility with community development. CIL’s pursuits in acquiring critical minerals such as lithium and cobalt — both domestically and overseas — have been prominently featured, underscoring the organisation’s strategic vision to reduce import dependence and support industries relying on these essential minerals.

By participating in IITF 2025, Coal India Limited continues to reinforce its commitment to transparency, collaboration and public awareness. The event serves as an important platform for dialogue with stakeholders, industry partners and the wider community.

The Ministry of Coal and CIL affirmed that they remain steadfast in securing India’s energy future while steering the nation toward sustainable and self-reliant growth.
