Tata Power Company Ltd. is set to revolutionize India’s solar manufacturing sector with a massive Rs 10,000 crore investment to establish a state-of-the-art 10-GW ingots and wafers production facility in Odisha. This strategic move is aimed at strengthening the company’s solar cell and panel production capabilities while also serving the growing demand for semiconductor chips.
Ingots and wafers are essential raw materials in the production of solar cells and modules, playing a key role in both the renewable energy and technology sectors. Currently, Tata Power boasts 4.55 GW of manufacturing capacity for solar cells and modules, but the new facility will significantly enhance its ability to integrate these materials into its production pipeline, boosting both domestic supply and export potential.
Tata Power is evaluating two prime locations for the new plant – Gopalpur in Ganjam district and Cuttack – both of which are strategically located near key ports, facilitating easy access to international markets.
The announcement underscores Tata Power’s commitment to reinforcing India’s position in the global solar and semiconductor manufacturing markets, with an eye on sustainability and energy security. The project is expected to create thousands of jobs and drive technological innovation in the region, making Odisha a critical hub for clean energy and advanced manufacturing.
This ambitious plan signals a major leap forward in Tata Power’s vision to not only lead in renewable energy production but also to contribute to India’s self-reliance in high-tech manufacturing.
