In a remarkable display of operational excellence and resilience, Paradip Port Authority (PPA) has created history by clocking the fastest-ever 100 million metric tonnes (MMT) cargo throughput in a fiscal year since its inception . The milestone was achieved on November 27, marking a significant leap over previous records and reinforcing Paradip’s position as one of India’s most efficient and fastest-growing ports.

This is the ninth consecutive year that PPA has crossed the 100 MMT milestone. The port recorded 100.15 MMT cargo throughput, registering a 4.78 per cent year-on-year growth**, and achieving the feat 12 days earlier than last fiscal. In FY 2024-25, the 100 MMT mark was reached only on December 9. Notably, the achievement came in just 241 days, compared to 253 days in the previous year — its quickest turnaround since inception.

Despite persistent market volatilities, Paradip Port has continued to outpace expectations through accelerated operations, technology-driven system upgrades and seamless collaboration with its stakeholders. Strong growth across multiple cargo categories has been instrumental in this performance.

Coastal thermal coal, which forms nearly 45 per cent of the port’s total cargo basket, posted a 3.76 per cent rise, while containerised cargo surged an impressive 32 per cent. Gypsum & Flux volumes grew 24 per cent, Steel cargo soared 35 per cent, and POL handled by the port expanded by 31 per cent year-on-year. These figures underscore PPA’s rapid emergence as India’s leading coastal shipping hub.

Expressing pride over the achievement, PPA Chairman P.L. Haranadh credited the success to the visionary guidance of Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways. He extended gratitude to all officers, employees, user industries, stevedores, steamer agents, trade unions, PPP operators and government agencies including the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Govt. of Odisha, Indian Railways and Customs for their unwavering support.

The announcement was made in the presence of T. Venu Gopal, Deputy Chairman, A.K. Bose, Advisor (Traffic), and G. Edison, Traffic Manager.

With a sharpened focus on efficiency, digital transformation and cargo diversification, Paradip Port Authority is now firmly on course to achieve an all-time high cargo handling record by the end of the fiscal.
