Paradip Port Authority (PPA) on Monday achieved a significant sustainability milestone by becoming the second major port in the country to commission a full-fledged Shore-to-Ship power supply system, successfully delivering complete load power to the vessel MV APJ INDRANI at the CB-1 berth this afternoon.
The newly commissioned system represents a cutting-edge advancement in port-side energy infrastructure, enabling vessels equipped with compatible power-receival technology to draw electricity directly from the shore instead of relying on conventional fuel-based onboard generators. This breakthrough, officials said, not only reduces operational emissions but also unlocks new opportunities for vessels shuttling between Paradip and ports offering similar green-power facilities.
Hailing the achievement, PPA Chairman P. L. Haranadh noted that the capability reflects both technological maturity and environmental commitment. “The live monitoring panel and on-site operations reflect the efficiency and safety of this advanced setup. This accomplishment reinforces PPA’s dedication to cleaner, greener, and more energy-efficient port operations,” he said.
The successful commissioning has been attributed to the meticulous efforts of the port’s electrical engineers and the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Department, whose coordinated work ensured seamless installation and integration of the system. Their contribution, port officials emphasized, stands as a strong affirmation of the authority’s resolve to promote pollution-free and carbon-neutral shipping operations.
