Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, marked International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development by announcing its largest-ever employee-led community outreach initiative. A total of 1,800 employees contributed 4,000 volunteer hours—equivalent to nearly 167 days of service—benefiting more than 7 lakh people across the company’s operations in Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Andhra Pradesh.
Aligned with the organisation’s philosophy of Transforming Communities, the initiative underscores Vedanta Aluminium’s strong culture of volunteerism. By encouraging employees to step beyond their formal roles, the company is creating a multiplier effect on social impact. From plantation drives and pond restoration to literacy sessions, skill-development workshops, health camps and blood donation drives, employees led diverse activities across healthcare, education, livelihoods, environment, and women’s empowerment.
Commenting on the achievement, Rajiv Kumar, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium, said: “At Vedanta Aluminium, we believe our responsibility extends far beyond our operations. It is about creating meaningful, lasting impact in the communities that make our growth possible. The scale of volunteer participation we’ve seen this year reflects the deep sense of purpose our employees and business partners carry. Contributing nearly 4,000 hours of community service is not just a measure of engagement, but a testament to our collective commitment to holistic development.”
The company’s volunteer-driven initiatives have delivered impactful outcomes across operational regions. In Odisha, grassroots sports programs in Lanjigarh have produced young archers now competing at national championships, while traditional Saura and Dokra art forms have been revitalised, enabling artisans to access wider markets and preserve their cultural heritage. In Korba, Chhattisgarh, women trained through Vedanta’s livelihood interventions have showcased their products at prominent exhibitions, turning local skills into sustainable enterprises. Mega health camps across Odisha and Chhattisgarh have strengthened healthcare delivery and preventive care, significantly reducing disease burden in underserved communities. In Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, digital learning infrastructure and labs established in schools are equipping students with essential 21st-century skills.
Through these sustained and expanding efforts, Vedanta Aluminium continues to strengthen its community engagement. What began as individual acts of service has evolved into a year-round movement of shared responsibility. By embedding volunteerism into its organisational fabric, the company is creating a ripple effect that enhances local ecosystems, fosters inclusive growth, and ensures that progress reaches every corner of the regions it serves.
