JSW Steel Ltd, Odisha Mining Division, organized a comprehensive awareness programme on the New Labour Codes at its Narayanposhi Iron & Manganese Mines, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening compliance and employee welfare through knowledge-driven initiatives.
The session was conducted under the guidance of the Regional Labour Commissioner (Central), Rourkela, along with the Labour Enforcement Officer (Central), Rourkela, and witnessed active participation from more than 200 attendees, including workers, staff members and associated personnel. The programme focused on familiarising employees with the Government of India’s latest labour law reforms and their practical implications at the workplace.
During the interaction, the officials elaborated on the four major labour codes — the Code on Wages, the Social Security Code, the Industrial Relations Code, and the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code. Emphasising the shared benefits of effective implementation, the Regional Labour Commissioner highlighted how adherence to the new labour codes would foster transparency, industrial harmony and improved productivity. He also cautioned against non-compliance, informing participants that detailed implementation guidelines from the government would be issued in due course.
The programme further addressed essential statutory requirements, including issuance of appointment letters and identity cards, maintenance of employment and wage records, and adherence to industry-specific regulations. Special focus was laid on promoting gender equality, enhancing women’s participation in the workforce, and ensuring compliance with provisions related to the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) in mining operations.
Senior representatives from JSW Steel, including Chitaranjan Bahinipati, HR Head (Odisha), Tapan Kumar Rath, Mines Manager, Narayanposhi, and Prakash Hati, Welfare Officer, were present during the session and interacted with participants, reinforcing the company’s people-centric approach.
