Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, is championing the development of young archers in Kalahandi district through its flagship Sports Training Initiative in Lanjigarh. Recently, 21 of these talented athletes — 12 males and 9 females — qualified for the prestigious 26th Odisha State Open Archery Meet 2025. These archers earned their spots after excelling in the district-level trials held at SSD School, Lanjigarh, organized by the Kalahandi Athletic Association with support from Vedanta. A total of 40 archers competed across Indian Round, Compound, and Recurve categories during the trials.

Launched in 2018, Vedanta Lanjigarh’s Sports Initiative has been a key platform for nurturing local talent by providing access to world-class training, national-level coaches, modern equipment, logistical support, and nutritional diets. Currently, 40 students are undergoing archery training, while another 40 are honing their skills in athletics. Over 300 youth have benefited from the programme so far. In FY 2024-25 alone, the initiative has yielded impressive results, with trainees securing 37 state-level medals, earning more than 20 spots at national competitions, and even clinching a national medal at the second Jan Jatiya Khel Mahotsav 2024.

Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya, CEO of Vedanta Alumina Business, expressed pride in the achievement, saying, “This accomplishment is a proud moment for the young archers and the entire Kalahandi community. It’s a testament to what focused training, proper guidance, and the right resources can do in unlocking potential. Our goal is to nurture grassroots talent in the region and give them a solid platform to excel at higher levels. We look forward to more success stories emerging from our sports programme.”

Through such initiatives, Vedanta Aluminium is committed to fostering grassroots sporting talent and empowering rural youth across Odisha. The company has already trained over 500 youth in sports such as archery, hockey, karate, and football. In addition, its broader social impact initiatives have touched the lives of 4.5 lakh people across 500 villages, spanning areas such as livelihood, education, health, infrastructure, grassroots sports, and culture. As part of its flagship Nand Ghar project, Vedanta has also established 531 modernized anganwadis in Odisha, significantly contributing to women and child development in the state.
