Aditya Aluminium, part of the Aditya Birla Group, has revolutionized eye care in Rengali, Odisha, with the launch of its flagship Project Vision Centre in partnership with the Vision India Foundation. Since its inception in 2020, this pioneering initiative has provided life-changing vision care to over 94,000 residents across 81 villages in the Sambalpur district — a region previously devoid of essential ophthalmic services.

The Centre, a blend of local expertise and remote consultations with specialists from the well-regarded Trilochan Netralaya, has quickly become a lifeline for the community. With an impressive track record, more than 635 patients were treated in just one quarter, and 70 successful cataract surgeries were conducted under the ‘Blind Free Sambalpur’ campaign, giving individuals a second chance at life by restoring their eyesight.

This remarkable initiative reaches far beyond the clinic walls, offering weekly outreach camps, door-to-door screenings, and leveraging the dedication of ASHA and Anganwadi workers to ensure no one is left behind. The Centre also actively digitizes patient records for follow-up care, addressing common conditions like pterygium and diabetic retinopathy, while providing free spectacles to those in need.

But the Vision Centre is just getting started. With plans to extend its impact to 108 villages through mobile eye units and a robust network of village-level volunteers, Aditya Aluminium’s long-term goal is to eliminate avoidable blindness across the region entirely.

“We are not just offering healthcare; we are offering a new lease on life,” said J P Nayak, Unit Head of Aditya Aluminium. “Restoring sight is about more than just eyesight. It’s about restoring livelihoods, education, and dignity,” he added.

For Panchanan Behera, a 73-year-old tailor from Rengali, the Centre has been nothing short of a miracle. “I had given up hope of ever seeing clearly again. Thanks to the Vision Centre, I can now stitch again and live independently. It’s like getting my life back,” he shared.

Rengali’s Vision Centre serves as a powerful testament to the transformative potential of corporate social responsibility (CSR), blending business commitment with community healing. Aditya Aluminium’s efforts are part of the Aditya Birla Group’s wider CSR program, which touches the lives of over 5 lakh people across 128 villages in Odisha. Driven by a vision of creating a sustainable, equitable society, the Group aims to uplift marginalized communities and contribute to India’s human development index.

Through initiatives like the Vision Centre, Aditya Birla Group continues to show that corporate responsibility can lead to lasting social change — one eye at a time.
