Baphlimali Mines marks Safety Week 2025 with strong compliance and community engagement

Utkal Alumina International Ltd (UAIL), a subsidiary of Utkal Alumina International Ltd (UAIL)under the Aditya Birla Group, observed the 43rd Odisha Mines Safety Week–2025 with a comprehensive series of activities at the Baphlimali Mines, in accordance with directives issued by the Directorate General Mines Safety (DGMS) Bhubaneswar Region.

A four-member DGMS team visited the mines to assess safety standards and statutory compliance. The inspection team, led by Nabin Kumar Singh and comprising members Mohan Reddy, Sachindra Panda, and Saithala Appalaraju, conducted an extensive field review and expressed satisfaction with the safety systems in place.

To commemorate the occasion, a special programme was organised at the Township Club House in Nuapada. The event witnessed the presence of UAIL Unit Head Rabi Narayan Mishra; Hindalco Industries Mines Safety Head Ajay Thakur; Baphlimali Mines Head Vijay Chauhan; and Safety Head Vishwajeet Jowardar, among others.

Addressing employees and their families, Mishra reaffirmed that Baphlimali Mines follows advanced and rigorous safety practices, supported by strict monitoring mechanisms for all personnel. He assured that the organisation would continue to uphold and strengthen its safety commitments in the coming days. He also appreciated the enthusiastic participation of employees and their families throughout the Safety Week.

Highlighting the value of safety awareness, Ajay Thakur noted that safety instincts are nurtured from birth, beginning with a mother’s guidance, and remain indispensable throughout life. He emphasised the necessity of firm adherence to safety protocols in the workplace.

The DGMS delegation, along with safety leaders including Jowardar, urged everyone to integrate safe practices into their daily routines, making safety a core part of their lifestyle.

Throughout the week, UAIL organised poster, slogan, and essay competitions for employees, their families, and students of the Aditya Birla Public School. A display showcasing modern safety equipment and machinery used at the Baphlimali Mines was also arranged.

Additionally, as part of the mines’ CSR activities, various products and materials developed under community development programmes from neighbouring villages were exhibited during the event.
