As the festival of Raksha Bandhan approaches, TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL) — a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of Odisha — is lighting up lives beyond electricity through its flagship CSR initiative, Samridhi.
Focused on women’s empowerment and the preservation of Odisha’s rich cultural heritage, TPCODL is supporting rural women artisans in crafting eco-friendly Rakhis that incorporate traditional art forms such as Pattachitra, Dokra, and Palm Leaf crafts. These intricately handcrafted Rakhis are being produced by local artisan communities in the Balianta art cluster of Khordha District and the Saptasajya heritage village of Dhenkanal District.
Through comprehensive training, capacity-building, and market linkage support, TPCODL is helping over 300 women artisans achieve economic independence. The initiative promotes rural entrepreneurship while simultaneously reviving and sustaining age-old artistic traditions of Odisha that are in danger of being lost.
A special stall was set up at IDCO Towers, Bhubaneswar, where these exquisite Rakhis were showcased to the public. The stall drew hundreds of visitors who admired the beautifully crafted designs and supported the artisans by purchasing the Rakhis — helping to spread the dual message of tradition and empowerment.
These eco-conscious Rakhis are being marketed through a combination of exhibitions, local stalls, and online platforms, giving consumers a meaningful alternative to mass-produced products. Each Rakhi not only represents the timeless bond of sibling love but also embodies a powerful story of craftsmanship, cultural pride, and women’s empowerment.
The Samridhi initiative stands as a testament to TPCODL’s ongoing commitment to inclusive community development, environmental sustainability, and cultural revival. By supporting such grassroots efforts, the company is paving the way for a brighter and more equitable future across its operational regions in Odisha.
This Raksha Bandhan, TPCODL encourages everyone to celebrate the festival with purpose — by tying a thread that honours tradition, uplifts women artisans, and supports a sustainable future. Every Rakhi crafted under the Samridhi initiative is more than a festive ornament — it’s a symbol of hope, heritage, and heartfelt connection.
