“Company Secretaries can be the torchbearers of India’s startup and agri-business revolution,” said Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines, Satish Chandra Dubey, while addressing *Aspirational East*, a national seminar on startups, FPOs, and agri-business organised by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) in Patna on Friday.

Applauding ICSI’s initiative to bring the discourse on agriculture and entrepreneurship to the eastern region, Dubey highlighted the government’s commitment to uplifting the sector through progressive policies and support schemes. “Company Secretaries are uniquely positioned to guide and mentor startups and FPOs, enabling economic sustainability and empowering rural India,” he noted.

Guest of Honour and Rajya Sabha MP Upendra Kushwaha reinforced the message, describing agriculture as “the backbone of our economy.” He stressed the importance of professionals supporting farmers and Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) with good governance and strategic oversight.

The seminar featured in-depth sessions on governance in FPOs, financing and policy frameworks, and the digital transformation of agri-business. Speakers underscored the immense potential of technology-driven agri-startups and the critical role of corporate governance in scaling these ventures.

ICSI President Dhananjay Shukla drew an interesting parallel between the ancient role of secretaries in governance and the modern-day responsibilities of Company Secretaries. “Just as described in the Vedas and Puranas, today’s Company Secretaries are catalysts of change in business and society,” he said.

Shukla also announced ICSI’s Fee Waiver scheme for students from defence and paramilitary families, as well as those from remote regions, underscoring the institute’s commitment to inclusivity and nation-building.
