Dalmia Bharat Group, one of India’s leading cement and sugar conglomerates, commemorated the 121st birth anniversary of its founder, Shri Jai Dayal Dalmia Ji, with an expansive week-long celebration of ‘Sewa Diwas’ across its pan-India network. The observance, held from December 4 to 11 across 25 locations — including manufacturing units, regional hubs and the corporate office — was devoted to honouring the timeless values of humility, compassion, integrity and community service that shaped the Group’s legacy.
This year’s edition of Sewa Diwas was anchored in the theme of Sustainability, reflecting the founder’s deep-rooted belief in responsible growth, ecological balance and the welfare of future generations. The week witnessed employees, business partners and community groups coming together in collective action to revitalise local ecosystems, support vulnerable sections of society and strengthen community infrastructure.
Throughout the country, Dalmia Bharat teams undertook plantation drives to enhance green cover, organised cleanliness and sanitation campaigns, and launched recycling-awareness initiatives that promoted responsible waste management at the grassroots level. As part of the Group’s longstanding tradition of compassion-driven service, employees visited orphanages and old-age homes under the ‘Ann Daan’ initiative, distributing meals and engaging with residents. Parallelly, local infrastructure redevelopment activities were undertaken in neighbouring communities, addressing essential needs such as public space restoration, access to clean water, and upkeep of common community assets. Community engagement was further strengthened through ‘Nukkad Natak’ performances centred on ethical living, sustainability and responsible citizenship, echoing the founder’s emphasis on value-driven societal upliftment.
In Odisha, Dalmia Cement executed a series of high-impact initiatives across its Rajgangpur and Cuttack locations, positively affecting 3,274 beneficiaries. A major focus was laid on enhancing community infrastructure. In Cuttack, the establishment of large-scale water facilities benefited nearly 1,500 people who had long relied on inadequate sources of clean water. In Rajgangpur, the inauguration of a Solar & Electrical Lab marked a significant step toward strengthening local skill development, equipping youth with technical competencies aligned with emerging green technologies.
The celebrations also included targeted welfare initiatives such as the distribution of sewing machines to promote women’s livelihood opportunities, assistance to self-help groups to boost micro-entrepreneurship, supply of nutrition kits to vulnerable households, and organisation of blood donation camps. Recognising the important role played by community champions, the company felicitated 32 village volunteers from both locations with certificates and a cash award of ₹2,000 each for their consistent contribution to grassroots development.
Speaking on the occasion, Chetan Srivastav, Executive Director, DCBL and Unit Head, Rajgangpur, said, “At Dalmia Bharat, Sewa Diwas is not just a tribute to our founder; it is a living expression of his ideals. Each initiative undertaken this week reflects our resolve to build responsibly, care deeply and contribute meaningfully to the communities and ecosystems that sustain us. From strengthening green cover to restoring community spaces and extending care to the vulnerable, every initiative reflects his enduring vision of conscious progress. It is a reminder that growth must always be rooted in responsibility towards both people and the planet.”
The Group also continued its tradition of recognising excellence and sustained impact through its legacy-led awards. The DIKSHa Kendra Sarvashreshtha Pradarshak honoured 16 candidates who demonstrated exceptional performance in skill development and community impact. The Gram Parivartan Shreshtha Pradarshan Puraskar recognised 22 individuals driving meaningful rural transformation in their regions. Additionally, the Satat Karmi Puraskar acknowledged employees who exemplified dedication, consistent performance and steadfast adherence to the Group’s values.
Through Sewa Diwas, Dalmia Bharat reaffirmed that its journey of growth remains anchored in values, community and purpose. By weaving sustainability and service into everyday actions, the Group continues to honour the legacy of a founder who believed in building with conscience, serving with humility and transforming society through compassion-led leadership.
