The International Gemological Institute (IGI) has announced a landmark development in gemological education in India with its School of Gemology being accredited as a Teaching Centre (ATC) for the Gemmological Association of Great Britain (Gem-A). Beginning November 2025, the prestigious Gem-A Foundation Course will be offered at IGI’s flagship Mumbai centre, marking a significant step forward in providing world-class gemological training within the country.
This collaboration paves the way for Indian students to embark on the journey toward the globally respected Fellowship of the Gemmological Association (FGA) designation — one of the most sought-after recognitions in the gem and jewellery industry.
“We are thrilled to partner with Gem-A and introduce their Foundation & Diploma curriculums to our Mumbai School. For 50 years, IGI has endeavoured to bring world-class learning to our students. With this new offering, both our existing and new students can access internationally benchmarked gemological education,” said Tehmasp Printer, Global CEO of IGI. He added that Gem-A qualified instructors at IGI will mentor students through the program, equipping them for advanced study and successful careers in the field.
Established in 1908, Gem-A is the world’s oldest gemological institute, recognized for setting global standards in gemological qualifications. Its Foundation Certificate serves as the crucial first step toward the FGA designation, imparting essential theoretical and practical knowledge in gemology.
At IGI Mumbai, the Gem-A Foundation Course will run over eight weeks from November to December 2025, culminating in a globally synchronized examination in January 2026. The Gem-A Diploma in Gemmology will follow from March to May 2026. Successful candidates will be eligible to apply for Fellowship of Gem-A, thereby earning the prestigious FGA title.
With this initiative, IGI further strengthens its global leadership in gemological education. Operating 31 advanced grading laboratories and 18 Schools of Gemology worldwide, IGI continues to shape the careers of thousands of aspiring professionals every year.
The launch of Gem-A courses at IGI Mumbai promises to open new opportunities for students and industry professionals aspiring to build expertise and gain internationally recognized credentials in gemology.
